My Day in Bosnia

Posted Bosnia and Herzegovina
Here is the Stari Most (Old Bridge). The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most recognizable landmarks, and is considered one of the most exemplary pieces of Islamic architecture in the Balkans. In 1993 it was destroyed in a sort of Civil War within Bosnia. this topic is still VERY sensitive, and it was rebuilt in 1995 using as much original stone as possible.

This is a view of Počitelj. During the Middle Ages, Počitelj was considered the administrative centre and centre of governance of Dubrava župa (county), while its westernmost point gave it major strategic importance.

Me at the top of the mosque's minaret tower looking down on the town of Mostar. Mostar is the most important city in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia. The old town was pretty and very similar to Istanbul but it was only maybe a 1/2 mile long.

Another reminder of the ethnic conflicts that still exist in Bosnia. Above are street signs in Bosnian that remain but the names in Serbian have been blacked out my the local population. This is not done by the government, but just local individuals. And the Serbian words are blacked out on almost all the signs I saw in the country.

The reminders of the Bosnian War remain present. This was just a shelled out building from the war that remained in the heart of old town.
